Nonprofits in North America, Europe, and Australia have a multitude of online fundraising services to choose from mostly thanks to their government’s efforts to build digital records and databases of legally verified nonprofits. In most parts of the world, however, government’s digital capabilities remain a work in progress and as a result, the ability to accept online donations is challenging for most nonprofits in Africa, parts of Asia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Latin America.

To fill in the gap, social good entrepreneurs worldwide have built upon the momentum of crowdfunding and extended crowdfunding services to nonprofits, NGOs, and charities in regions where online fundraising has been challenging up to this point in the Internet’s short history. The services themselves have taken on the responsibility of vetting the nonprofits and for that alone, deserve muchos kudos.

That said, this year’s Global Trends in Giving Survey includes questions about crowdfunding. If you are a donor, please volunteer 4-7 minutes of your time and take the survey.
