They are all part of TechSoup Asia , which serves charities in the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand — and now Vietnam and Indonesia.

This is what I wrote: "The specific and primary purpose of the corporation is to engage in educational and charitable activities which educate the public regarding the appropriate use of computer technology." These organizations deliver TechSoup product donations and educational support in their communities. There was no web.

12,000 specific geographic locations were coded in 42 Sub-Sahara African countries, 27 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean as well as Indonesia, and the Philippines (a selection of Africa-wide projects were also coded). It is also hoped that more donors will provide information and support the project in the future.

This charity also has offices in India , Nepal , and Tanzania operates its own projects and supports partners in Tanzania, India, and Nepal and works on behalf of children in places like the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Pakistan, Peru, Cambodia, China, and Bangladesh. Their great website is available in Japanese, English, and French.

From @rootwork: Well, I think it’s about going where people/supporters/potential supporters are. Mostly we measure it in whether we get positive feedback from our supporters and whether they seem engaged (commenting on stuff on Facebook, Retweeting, etc.). Social media used to engage local supporters to act globally.

About 700 people participated over two days, including some who had traveled to Santa Cruz from London, Indonesia, and across the US. In some ways, this event reminded me of the Ontario Science Centre's YouTube Meetup in 2008 --a real-time, physical event to support an online community. It was pretty freaking amazing.
