Just after the show, Sean Nicholson from Microsoft sent me a roster of new green Windows PCs , including the Toshiba Portégé Z835 ultrabook that has a mercury free-LED display and halogen-free printed wiring board. Laptops and now ultrabooks are much more energy efficient than desktop computers, and so in that aspect, can be regarded as green IT devices. Ultrabooks are light, thin, laptop computers with long battery life and that cost under $1,000.

I wasn't able to go to the 2010 CES Consumer Electronics Show this year, but I'm assured by TreeHugger , which reviews the show each year, especially the new green tech gadgets, that it was largely nothing much new. Despite few new green tech break-throughs, there apparently was plenty of new interesting stuff. Best of show was the Lenovo IdeaPad U1 Hybrid, a round notebook similar to the old clamshell iBooks, that is both a conventional laptop and tablet computer.
