Statistics compiled by the Telework Coalition show that more than 44 million Americans are commuting less by working at home at least one day per week, and it is the same in most countries with a growing number of "knowledge workers." US workers alone commute an average of 10,000 miles per year each and consume 67 billion gallons of gasoline. Google is planning to launch a free service called Google Voice that will provide similar functions at no cost.

Ramping up on Africa

Knowledge workers who don’t understand the constraints they work under are doomed to come up with solutions that will not work. Feel free to peruse or follow the list if you want daily info on what’s happening in Africa from some amazing people. A few weeks ago I felt a change in the force that drives me to do my work. Grameen has a team of community knowledge workers who go out in the fields of Uganda and collect agricultural information on their mobile devices. Grameen compiles and crunches the data and delivers vital information back to subsistence farmers via text message - like crop prices and weather info to that help them make the best decisions about their farm and future.
