Happy Thanksgiving!

Britt Bravo encourages us to step away from the computer this Thanksgiving. And, perhaps many took her advice, opting for turkey versus tagging items with the NpTech Tag!
The NonprofitTech Blog did manage to do a little apres turkey web surfing and found a disturbing example of a google bombing campaign as well as discovering that his blog has been tagged as porn!
The Thanksgiving Season ushers in the holiday giving season and the NTEN blog offers a sound off about the state of online fundraising. Democracy in Action give us a great list of "Six Outside the Stocking Ideas for Online Fundraising."
The holiday season is also time to donate your time to a cause. And this year it may very well be virtual volunteering. Jayne Cravens has a great piece on the topic here and you find an excellent how-to article for using SKYPE with virtual volunteers here.
Tagging
"Beneath the Metadata: Some Philosophical Problems with Folksonomy" has been making the rounds on various nonprofit technology lists, particularly in the library and museum communities. The article offers some clear explanations of taxonomies and folksonomies, but goes on to give many reasons why you should dislike folksonomies. Read David Weinberger's reply (Berkman Fellow and author of an article called "Why Tagging Matters") to the article here.
Video Blogging, Web Video, and Screencasts
The Gurteen Knowledge Community has a great curated collection of social change web videos as well as some excellent ones on web 2.0.
Jon Stahl, of OneNorthWest, enjoys 15 minutes of Web video fame in an interview about plone.
The See3 Blog points us to a video on YouTube that demonstrates the power of online video and will put your heart in throat!
Mike Seyfang, a nonprofit technology consultant in Austraila, tells us to avoid YouTube if you want to get remixed and mashedup.
Some nice screencasts on how to use wikis can be found at the Commons, a wiki magazine for nonprofits in Silicon Valley.
Social Networking
Random Thoughts on Life and Works has a post called "How Connected Are You?" that points some good articles on using social networking resources to think beyond your organization's web site.
Social Signals launches a podcast series with "From Org Charts to Sitemaps: How Organizational Structure Affects Web Strategy and Implementation."
Looks like MySpace is also getting sued for copyright violation.
Second Life
KnowProse blog publishes a press release about their new office in Second Life. Perhaps there will be more nonprofit setting up offices on Second Life with the Nonprofit Commons project being discussed in TechSoup's Virtual Office Space. And, for a quick summary of recent Second Life stats, see here.
Meanwhile, Net Neutrality legislative debates may have some impact for Second Life and other online games.
Hello Beth,
Your introducing thoughts upon technology as a toll against violence against women is fascinating. I have linked to your blog. Hope that's ok?
*hugs*

Anna,
That's great! It was fascinating to see all the links you've collected in so short a time.
