It was even more useful to learn how participatory writing visions can be. We took 30 minutes for the exercise. We learned how to write visions, how to use them, and how to share them with others. For me, writing a vision was empowering, exciting, and useful. I briefly explained what visioning is and why it might be valuable for us.

To get people in the mindset for brainstorming, I lead them through a couple of improvisation exercises that teach acceptance and openness to new ideas. It's available, but it's not the point of the whole exercise. There is no wrong answer to the question, "what do you imagine this thing might be in your wildest dreams?"

We also had interns recording during the honeycomb exercise. We gave them a sheet of paper to use to make random notes about ideas they had--and we stopped the meeting a couple times to encourage people to write things down. In the end, we had lots of pieces of paper with ideas tied to specific individuals with whom we can follow up.
