Recognized as one of America’s Top 20 Fundraising Experts, Tammy Zonker is an internationally recognized speaker and trainer who has revolutionized the world of philanthropy through her transformative approach.  In this exclusive interview, Tammy shares her insights into her Creating a Successful Fundraising Strategy & Plan MasterClass at the Western Canada Fundraising Conference (WCFC) 2023.

We delve into her commitment and enthusiasm for this prestigious conference – named one of the World’s 12 Best Nonprofit Conferences – and get insights into what participants can anticipate.

Q: Tammy, your MasterClass, “Creating a Successful Fundraising Strategy & Plan,” is highly anticipated at WCFC23. What inspired you to develop this particular session?

A:  I’m often asked, “Do you have a fundraising strategic plan template?”  The short answer is no. Every organization is different, approaches fundraising differently, has a unique baseline of data to inform strategy.  But the good news is yes, I developed a six-step framework to creating a data-informed, relationship-focused fundraising strategy and plan to raise more money.  This MasterClass will equip participants with a framework and approach they can use to create a strategic fundraising plan.  By guiding participants through my proven system, best practices, and emerging trends, I aim to empower them to skyrocket their fundraising results and create lasting impact.

Q: With your life’s work in empowering fundraisers to achieve transformational success, what is your ultimate goal for participants attending your MasterClass and WCFC23 as a whole?

A: Your question sort of says it all…my ultimate goal is to equip and empower fundraisers to achieve unprecedented success to fuel their organizations’ missions.  Through my MasterClass and all the other excellent sessions at WCFC23, I want participants to gain a deep understanding of strategic fundraising planning and develop the confidence to implement innovative approaches.  And I hope to ignite their passion for donor development, equip them with practical tools and techniques, and inspire them to create transformational impact for their organizations.

Q: This year, you will not only be conducting your MasterClass but also delivering the Simone Joyaux Memorial Opening Keynote and a breakout session, The Three-E Storytelling Formula.  Can you tell us more about these sessions and their significance?

A: It is an immense honor to deliver the Simone Joyaux Memorial Opening Keynote at WCFC23.  Simone was a trailblazer and an inspiration to fundraisers worldwide.  Her dedication to excellence and making a meaningful impact continues to resonate with professionals in our field.  I’ll be celebrating Simone’s legacy by exploring the divergent views of donor-centered fundraising and community-centered fundraising and what they mean for our profession and its future.  It’s a bit of a hot topic, so I think Simone would be pleased.

In my breakout session, we’ll look at how to create narratives that not only engage and inspire donors through ethical, storytelling but also empower those we serve.  It’s important that our stories do no harm, and don’t re-enforce stereotypes about the work we do and people who participate in our programs and services.

Q: Tammy, as a top international fundraising expert, you’re in demand at conferences worldwide.  When you can choose to speak anywhere, what motivates you to keep coming back to WCFC year-after-year?

A: What sets WCFC apart is its heart.  The conference’s warm and welcoming atmosphere, coupled with its commitment to delivering high-value content, creates an unparalleled learning experience.  The genuine connections I have made with fellow fundraisers and the opportunity to share my expertise are incredibly fulfilling.  WCFC fosters a sense of community and collaboration that is truly unique.  Every year, I am energized by the passion and dedication of the attendees, and their hunger for knowledge and growth.  And I learn a lot too!  It’s an honour to be part of such an exceptional event.  And that’s why WCFC holds a special place in my heart!
