Our experience successfully building Bookshare under the United States copyright exception, which has no such commercial availability limitation, informs this strong opinion. Under our copyright exception, we simply buy a copy of the needed print book, scan it using optical character recognition, and create an accessible ebook.

We’re standing by to help support these Indian organizations with the technology and services of Bookshare in pursuing these expanded digitization efforts. Moreover, earlier this year we began offering books in MP3 format.
