I’ve been using this tool since it actually was StarOffice, more than 10 years ago, when it was first open sourced by Sun in 2000. (funnily enough, for both packages, the executable is still called ‘soffice’ – for ‘Star Office.’). The database has not come anywhere near the functionality of Access.

Here are some of my favorite tools and how I use them to stay organized and be productive: Google Workspace, formerly known as G Suite: I cannot imagine a more important set of tools for nonprofit productivity than these free tools from Google: Google Docs , Google Sheets , Google Forms , Google Slides , and Google Calendar.

Why aren’t you just using Google Docs?” ” Yes, some of what we’re doing in Smartsheet could be done in Google Docs. It’s an Excel/Google Doc-like online app that generates spreadsheets that are more dynamic than just rows & columns. Right now we have 389 active sheets in our Team account.

I'm finding it very annoying to having to open an attached document from email, save it to my hard drive, and work with track changes or comments though. So, I've used wikispaces, pbwiki, socialtext, jotspot, and writely (now google docs). You can easilyl collaborate with spreadsheets and docs. The formatting is great.

Adding Security with Purchase Cards Many business professionals rely on Google Docs or Excel for their purchasing and expense tracking. First, we created an open Google Doc where we put in the introduction language, so anyone that clicked through from someone’s blog or Twitter post would have context about what was happening (and included a numbered list up to 53, so people could easily see where to add their name and blog address). For Google Apps administrators, the offerings in the Google Apps Marketplace seems to be a lot of 3rd party tools that pull in gApps data (Docs, Calendar, etc.) Administrators can't open private documents from gPanel, which is just fine. to make it easier to work within the 3rd party tool's own environment. they stare blankly.

Google Docs. At first glance, you might overlook Google Docs as too simplistic, but the built-in brochure, project proposal and newsletter templates give you endless possibilities. And, it’s open source, and isn’t even that hard to get set up and running. And, like all consultants, workflow involves documents and spreadsheets, and for that I mostly use LibreOffice , although sometimes using Google Docs makes sense for collaboration. It works for multiple projects. Evernote rocks my world.

Get a legal pad and a pen or pull up a Google Doc or a Word Doc. You have to give yourself a chance to think bigger, find more opportunities, and open up to new possibilities. It’s too easy to drop parts of your imaginary plan, shift others, and back off your goals because you don’t feel like following through.

So for some groups Zoom and a google doc, and the occasional Jamboard, will be a perfect match. Something as simple as asking them to open a google doc and write their name at the top of the document. You want people focused on their strategic conversation not struggling to make the tool work.

gSyncIt can get my notes into Google Docs, but those don't sync with the Pre and I don't want to have to get Internet access just to read or write a note. Also, gSyncIt also brought my Google Docs into my Outlook Notes, which wasn't good. But even better is that Palm left the system open for developers to tweak. Notes: Evernote.

Check out this video for tips on writing the best opening sentence you can. You could go with, Do you know you are a hero? It’s just too dull.

Consider using a free online tool such as Google Docs and/or Google Calendar to plan when emails/communications will be sent. This becomes easier if you start to look at what types of information your constituents are opening in your email newsletters. Avoid using ‘click here’ in your email copy.

It does make me think a lot about this whole space, and wonder if the fast moving train of Salesforce, and the slower moving trains of the open source alternatives, are beginning to bear down on the old guard, and how they will respond to them (or not, which would spell doom.) And yeah after reading the docs, I agree, it’s bad.

I’d like to see this opened for all nonprofits to add themselves as beneficiaries. If your in that camp it’s likely you are using Google Drive, Google’s document collaboration tool and its replacement for Google Docs. As more people begin using the app, the community has more leverage to attract further sponsorship.

Two or three years ago, you could have a conversation out in the open and have people organically join in. When it came to blogger outreach, a Google Doc was the preferred and successful tool. Epic Change used four planning tools, but much of the work was really in just two: a private Facebook group and Google Docs.

The first time you open a Chromebook, it's a disorienting experience. I use Google Docs , Zoho Writer , and Office Web Apps. For many people, being able to use Google Docs offline would make a huge difference in the viability of Chromebook. That's an exciting prospect for any nonprofit, but is it really feasible?
