My contribution to the panel is to provide context about the use of social media in emergency and disaster response as well as an overview of some of the tools we saw deployed last year and we may see in the future. Whether it’s direct or indirect content, why do citizens turn to social media in moments of need or disaster?

They provide disaster relief and shelter to families that have been devastated by natural disasters. Another video they posted after the landslides in Peru drove $3,200 in donations , which used video clips shot on a mobile device by staff on the field responding to disaster.

Unfortunately, this isn't Domino's Pizza and disaster response can't work as if it is. The American Red Cross is now looking into how best to give the public an increased role in disaster response. "We can help prevent emergencies from becoming disasters," said Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
