Thirteen students produced three projects that layered participatory activities onto an exhibition of artwork from the permanent collection of the Henry Art Gallery. When activities were not facilitated, people were often too timid to interact.

The gym staff aren’t offering instruction or serving as users’ partners; instead, they facilitate connections among the users. At level two, the visitor has some interactive experience (pushing buttons, etc.) They aren’t hard to implement and they needn’t dramatically change the exhibition, but they could dramatically change the social experience. I was the project manager/curator for the exhibition, leading both the Second Life-based community exhibit design process and the real world translation of virtual exhibits.
