NTEN has just announced the first NTC video competition. And the good news is that if you've never created web videos before and don't have the big bucks to hire a professional, there is enough time to learn. In fact, there's an NTEN Affinity Group for video blogging where you can get advice, ask questions, or share what you know. Come join.
I'd also like to point out a video genre that has been used for social change: machimina.
Machinima, derived from the words “machine” and “cinema,” is a new art form that re-uses commercial video-game environments to make animated films. Combining aspects of animation, game development, puppetry, graffiti, fan fiction, and improvisational theater into a moving image art form, machinima represents the latest frontier of digital popular culture. The Museum of the Moving Image is hosting the 2006 Machinima Festival this weekend in NYC.
If I was going, I wouldn't miss this panel. Although I could participate via Second Life.
Machinima with Issues
Engaging and provocative uses of machinima as art, advocacy, and evidence will be presented and discussed.
Moderator: Carl Goodman (Deputy Director and Director of Digital Media,
Museum of the Moving Image).
Guests:
Chris Burke (media artist, creator
of This Spartan Life)
Eddo Stern (media artist, maker of Landlord
Vigilante)
Alex Chan (creator of The French Democracy).
Chris Burke is winner of Save the Net viral video contest - check out the video here.
