The nonprofit community was stunned yesterday when Blackbaud purchased long time rival Convio. According to Blackbaud President Marc Chardon, “Combining Convio and Blackbaud is expected to help create one of the largest SaaS vendors with over $440 million in trailing twelve months pro forma revenue.” ” So what does this acquisition mean for the nonprofit community, in particular for the 1500+ customers that use Convio?

Lots of people have already weighed in on Blackbaud’s purchase of Convio (two of my favorites: [link] and [link] ). How) will this affect Convio’s online marketing suite? While I generally think vendor consolidation is bad for the nonprofit world (unless the vendor being absorbed wasn’t a strong player to begin with), I’m less concerned about the impact on small nonprofits. There were few full solutions designed for large nonprofits to begin with.

The good folks at CRM Fusion give this utility away to nonprofits. Salesforce distributes API calls on a scaled basis, which for nonprofits on a basic grant like we are works out to 5,000 API calls allowed in a 24 hour period.
