Digital media comprised of paid, owned, hybrid, and earned media. Some things have not changed: Time and attention are finite. Everyone loves a good story.

Just like any real world activist, motivation is triggered by empowerment and shut down with arrogance. When they have appropriate content, RT it. You want them to be enthusiastic free agents as well.

You should also never automate content using these tools, or spam each community with the same message. The overall message should be one of empowerment, not control and restriction. Delete content that is off-topic or inappropriate in character. Think before you post, and make sure that your content is accurate and factual.

Empowerment is unconditional. Use lots of different, disconnected tools and then pull the content together into a central location. Contributing content and spreading the word are voluntary activities, so learn how to create good invitations and actionable opportunities. Be realistic about who will create content.

I strongly believe that people should not be left in sitting their seats with their laptops open for a training for more than 30 minutes at a stretch. It puts people to sleep and it isn’t very healthy. When I present content, it is done in an active way – participants get to move around, stand up, walk around, and move.

They used conditional content in the participant center and emails, and allowe people to self-organize their own training events and peer to peer fundraising.
