One of my blog readers, Sarah Mowry, Outreach Director for the Deschutes Land Trust pointed me to Nature Conservancy’s Instagram contest , an image scavenger hunt. The photos, particularly since TNC’s audience are photography enthusiastic, can become a richer source for compelling photos than stock photos.

The Nature Conservancy has used Flickr Group to host a photo contest on its Web site. Here's an interview with Nature Conservancy staff members Evan Parker and Susan Citro about how the organization is using Flickr. Why did your decide to set up a group on Flickr? Keep them engaged. Any gotchas?

We have a concept for a national photography competition in conjunction with the Congress ??? ???if I, of course, loved the flickr competition idea and suggested that she consider a modest outcome and learning experiment. Extension programs use wikis, flickr, blogs, tagging, and other tools to share information and content. Creative Commons on Flickr :: flickr.com/creativecommons. The app then allows you to share your photos on a photo-by-photo basis on Flickr, Facebook, and Twitter.
