The app was a finalist in Microsoft's 2011 Imagine Cup, a student technology competition. Our Time (Facebook) is a nonprofit dedicated to youth empowerment through the voting process. The iPad app provides free videos to K-12 students on various topics, including math, science, finance, and history. iStudiez Pro.

One of the nonprofits that inspires me locally here in Santa Cruz is a youth empowerment and food justice organization called "Food, What!?" Doron doesn’t work with A students or B students. Today, there are thirty kids fidgeting in a classroom, talking to their friends, messing with their phones. Hanging out.

Because it was my first time meeting the students, part of the half hour was spent getting to know each other. I highly recommend volunteering with young people, whether they are as little as a kindergartner, or as old as a college student. If you're a parent, the local PTA may have ways for you to get involved as well.
