When I began writing proposals, storytelling was the only way I knew to convey the problems my organization faced and what we were doing to overcome those problems. But storytelling still plays a prominent role in all requests that I write.

If they don't a dollar, at least the contest has helped inspire them to dip their toes in the social media waters. Time will tell, but the contest has given us a jump start on our social media strategy.

Storytelling works. In 2015 and 2016, #GivingTuesday created #MyGivingStory , a campaign that aimed to raise awareness by using storytelling as a marketing tactic. Individuals reflected on why they gave to a certain nonprofit organization and then shared these personal stories in a contest form on the #GivingTuesday website.
