Bloggers, activists and friends gathered at our office to watch The New Silver , a film about a woman in Bolivia who is fighting to build a better life for her family with the help of microcredit. Bread for the World is a collective Christian voice urging our nation's decision makers to end hunger at home and abroad.

The children are ages 6-16, and they're making huge strides by leading a national movement against child rape in Zimbabwe. That seems to represent the indomitability of the spirit of these women for whom singing is a real celebration, on the one hand, and they told me, on the other hand, it helps them forget their troubles, which are huge. Celebrating Women was book number two.

I think my favorite example of that is a women's group from the highlands of Bolivia who wrote to us maybe seven or eight years ago. KR: I think a major concern, from the very founding of the Global Fund, has remained a concern despite the fact that this year we celebrate our 20th anniversary of grant making, and that is access to the financial resources necessary to take the work that women do on a daily basis in their communities to the next level of impact.
