29 Nonprofit Bloggers to Follow on Twitter

October 19, 2009

Last week I asked the followers of @NonprofitOrgs to nominate their favorite nonprofit bloggers. The list below is the result of that “Tweet Out”. Some on the list are very known in the nonprofit sector, and others are completely under the radar and providing some very valuable resources to the nonprofit sector.

This time around I limited the list to individuals bloggers, rather than blogs maintained by associations, publications, PR firms, etc. Of course, there are many others I am not aware of that should be on this list as well. Thanks everyone. After just a few hours of being live, this post does hold the record for most views/visits to a blog post. 2,670 thus far. I will likely Tweet it again a few times over the next month… have a good week!

  8. October 19, 2009 11:20 am

Thanks! Quite honored and mildly embarrassed 🙂 I guess on occasion is does pay off to have a weird last name — when you reverse-alpha… 🙂 Thanks so much!

I am big fan of your Katrin… hence the reverse alphabetical order. You’re quite the pioneer when it comes to nonprofits and mobile tech…. for years now. Keep it up! Hopefully more nonprofits in the U.S. will start to understand where the Web is going and make that move…

  9. October 19, 2009 11:50 am

Pleased to see that I was following almost everyone on the list already. Off to add the others. Thanks, Heather.

Heather, what a delightful surprise! As a long-time RSS subscriber of your blog, I was so surprised to read this post as I was catching up through Google Reader. I’m pleased to find out about some other bloggers I don’t know, who are paying attention to the nonprofit space. Look forward to learning from them. Thanks for including me in this extremely respected list of fellow bloggers.

Also, to speak to the number of your engaged followers: I suspect that this blog post has been the reason that I’ve received more followers today than on any other single day. Keep up the great blog posts yourself!

Great to hear about the followers! That’s the main reason I put the list together. I was lucky enough to be put on Twitter’s Suggested User List 2 weeks ago. I know there are many bloggers out there who have been doing it longer than I, so I wanted to make sure that your all at least got some of your due [followers].

Probably the one missing “must read” blog would be the work that the Blackbaud team is doing over at Netwits Think Tank – http://www.netwitsthinktank.com/. Especially when it comes to practical tips, Frank Barry is awesome.

  18. October 20, 2009 5:32 am

Great list, thanks so much for sharing!

Might I suggest your #30? Ben Peterson: @jhrben from Toronto, Canada
    Ben’s Blog – http://www.benpeterson.ca

Lots of great insights and advice on nonprofit management. Plus, every Tuesday there’s a guest blog from various non-profit leaders in, but not limited to, Canada.

    Thanks again 🙂

Fantastic list Heather! Every single one of these bloggers has helped me do my job just that much better. 🙂 It’s wonderful to see you all in one place!

  27. October 21, 2009 4:23 am

    Very helpful list – thanks.

I’d add Joe Waters @ http://selfishgiving.com/ on Cause Related Marketing. Great perspective in a lively combination of fact, opinion, and experience wrapped in writing style that draws me in and makes me want to shout in agreement or argument.

What a top-notch list! I’m familiar with several of the names mentioned but not everyone yet. Looking at them is going to be educational and fun.

Hey, great list! Many of these blogs I already know and love but I’ve been able to add a few goodies to my reader. I just launched a blog of my own (www.resources4associations.com) – hope to add some more Canadian representation onto the list one day!

Thanks for bringing this list to my attention. I am definitely going to look in on some of them.

  39. November 10, 2009 10:23 pm

Great list. Glad I stumbled upon this tonight. I’ve been out of the country most of the year on humanitarian missions – most recently in the Philippines for 3 months as a Kiva Fellow, so I was battling technology in the developing world and far behind on my interaction with out nonprofit mavens.

Love to share with you more of my reflections on philanthropy and social entrepreneurship via twitter: @sloane and through my blog: TheCausemopolitan.com.

    Best,
    Sloane

I would also like to be added to the list. WVGhana is a nonprofit voluntary organisation which coordinates volunteers to Ghana to help in orphange homes, hospitals and help on a newly built Diary Farm. Our aim is to help contribute to the 2015 Millennium Development Goals set up by the United Nations.

  41. May 26, 2010 9:46 am

This is a great list and — honestly and humbly — I’d love to join its ranks! My blog, Done by People, covers human resources and organization management in the nonprofit sector.

My blog is pretty new, but is the only one to focus on consulting with nonprofits…perhaps you might consider when you make up your next list…http://penelopecagney.wordpress.com/

I’ll modestly add myself to the list, as I’m followed a lot but am a category-shifter — some nonprofit and some “other” social good/tech coverage — Congrats to all on this list! Great people, terrific blogs!
