So you want to start an organization that benefits a specific cause. Or is something that benefits both the owners and the cause more up your alley? An L3C, though, is a hybrid of an LLC and nonprofit business model, which is where an organization operates to benefit the general public without shareholders and without a profit motive.

A good network of nonprofits in your area can benefit everyone by ensuring goods with a use get used. We need a nationwide program similar to Cash for Clunkers for electronics; clear out the houses and businesses of obsolete materials so they don't get dumped on nonprofits by well-meaning folks. There is, as yet, no U.S.
