Social Media was a big topic this year, with workshop titles like "Maximizing Social Networks and Online Resources in Alumni Relations", "Now That Facebook and Twitter Aren't Enough: Integrating Social Media into Your Advancement Toolkit ", and "Making Community Real in a Virtual World" Speakers and attendees reported heavy use of Facebook, LinkedIn, Flickr, Twitter, and YouTube (the few times I heard mentions of MySpace were negative).

HSUS MySpace Page | Take the Quiz! When you get your results, you get a badge and a write up. I wrote the word " social graph " in a post, so I guess according to Dave Winer, I sound like a monkey. So, I couldn't resist finding out what kind of monkey I am and all for a good cause. The HSUS newest campaign is geared towards helping the 1,300 chimps still condemned to life in research labs across the country. It's fun.

MySpace and Facebook display the number of friends you have. Like the Xbox Live achievement system, when you accomplish certain goals like your first checkin you get the “Newbie” badge. After you check in at 10 different locations you earn the “Adventurer” badge. There are a few like the “Swarm” badge that requires 50 people to check in at the same location within a given period of time all flash mob-like. The badge and mayoral systems have made the check in fun.
