This year the award went to Nancy Jo Craig who runs the nonprofit Capital Area Corporate Recycling Council (CACRC) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They persuaded her to run the place long enough to get it back on its feet.

I think some of the folks who are listening may have had a vision for something, an idea that they thought would make the world a better place. After that I decided to move back to Portland, because I felt Portland, Oregon was an amazing place to start a vision. I actually started out with International Studies, and more academic.

She has been the recipient of many awards, including Fast Company's 2007 Social Capitalist Award, and the League of Women Voters' Women Who Could Be President Award. I think my favorite example of that is a women's group from the highlands of Bolivia who wrote to us maybe seven or eight years ago.
