Soon afterwards in 2007, we won our first major award from the United States Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), which, in turn, allowed us to build Bookshare into a national asset. This experience helped us prove the potential of Bookshare to meet the needs of students with disabilities.

Today I’m delighted to share the exciting news about the new award we just received from OSEP to build upon Bookshare’s success and significantly improve access for students with disabilities. Bookshare is allowed to serve only students with a legally qualifying print disability per the Chafee Amendment to the Copyright Act.

The application allows any user to send information—including photos, videos, audio, or text—simply and securely to a Martus account. The Oak Foundation just awarded us a grant to provide accessible content to people with qualifying learning differences (like dyslexia) in Brazil, India, and the United Kingdom.
