If your community meets offline at a local watering hole to share opinions and make plans, don’t bother setting up a Twitter account with the purpose of influencing them. Pay attention to your community. But if they congregate online, on a community news site or blog network, join them in conversation there.

If you think 5-8 participants won’t be enough for some stakeholders, show them one video clip of your testing where a participant says, “Um… I guess at this point I’d leave the website (without making a donation)” If that doesn’t get their attention, invite them to watch a round of testing personally.

The Congress exposed some places and issues in severe need of attention, but I fear these are indignations quickly raised, quickly forgotten. They are places outside our daily lives--the Arctic, Papau New Guinea--and are easy, in some ways, to ignore or forget. We talked alongside each other but rarely to and with each other.

So I actually moved home to Texas and started to work on a local initiative to do some water resource protection and did everything right. Went through the democractic system, went door-to-door. Got the citizens of Austin to sign their names enough times to get it on the ballot.
