I think about how hesitant I was to become an artist, because I didn't see role models, and even to this day how hard it is for me sometimes to find peers who are women of color, because of how systematically they are pushed out. I'm an artist and an institution builder. The kind of art I do is art that gets engaged into the public.

I mean, most recently, I tried to come up with like five or six keys to collaboration, and it goes back to one of my mentors, Jeff Jarvis, who says, "Do what you do best, and link to the rest." I agree, and that's some of the things that I'm learning. Do what you can do best, and collaborate with people who can do the rest, right?

Does anyone in the room identify as an artist, by any chance? I just want to dispel the myth that we are not activists and that we are not artists. And as Britt said, I also am the Art and Media Director at the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights , which is based out of Oakland. Who identifies as an activist? Can I just see?
