I’m joining a panel to talk about the response for support after the Haiti earthquakes last year. Reports of violence and of peace efforts could be placed via the web or mobile phone. Examples from Haiti. Let’s look at a couple of the main examples from the Haiti earthquake response.

But what you may not have anticipated was that $41m of these dollars flowed through mobile phones via “premium text messages.” As it turns out, The Red Cross used but one of several common methods to generate revenue from mobile phone owners.

The January 12, 2010 catastrophic earthquake in Haiti showed some of the astonishing potential for volunteer-based digital disaster relief. and Sahana Foundation (which hosts a free open source disaster management system), have changed the way disaster relief is being done all over the world. For others it was not so clear.

Once upon a time, just a little more than a century ago, every factory that wanted to run its systems on electricity had to build its own electrical generating system.
