With initial funding of $2,500, he started the CompuMentor Project to match computer enthusiast volunteers called computer mentors with Bay Area nonprofits that needed the help. From 1971 to 1974 he was the founding editor of the excellent New Times alternative newspaper in Phoenix, where I first found out about him.
