He downloads Bookshare texts to a portable device called a BrailleNote that allows blind people like him to read digital Braille. The Power of One

NCE Social Media

At the Arc of the US Convention in Albuquerque in 2009 you could count them on one hand. Direct messaging (DM) is tweeting between only two people. First, I want to acknowledge that there are now 83 Arc-related groups on Twitter. That’s impressive adoption of this emerging technology in the past 16 months. I want to share with you a story that happened to us in Pittsburgh last week. Our internet connection went down on Monday, March 8.

Explora (Albuquerque, NM). For those who are interested, the book has sold 2,300 copies, and 17,000 people have read some portion of it online in the free edition. I'm excited to see how the book helps people move from ideas to action (and I sincerely hope it isn't languishing unread on too many shelves). If you feel the same way and you'd like one of them, drop a comment here and I'll pick two people at random in the next week. Dear Museum 2.0

Launching the First Wave of the OF/BY/FOR ALL Change Network

Museum 2.0

Our near-term goal is to enroll at least 200 organizations by the end of 2020, collectively pledging to involve one million new people in their work. But we're starting with a campaign to involve one million people - and to build a community of organizations helping each other make it happen. Change Network organizations will make specific commitments to become of, by, and for more diverse people. Half are led by people of color or indigenous people.

Kids and Philanthropy: Teaching Your Children To Be Charitable

Beth's Blog: How Nonprofits Can Use Social Media

Virginia DeBolt pointed me to this very inspiring story about a third grader in Albuquerque who raised $6000 to build a library in Ethiopia. The organizations listed are profiled by other young people. When I was a kid, Lucy the Elephant , was in a state of disrepair. A community group worked hard to get her placed on the historic register and raise money to restore her to her mid-century glory.

Plants! Natural Materials! Review of Explora!, a Peaceful, Delightful Science Center

Museum 2.0

So imagine my delight to visit Explora in Albuquerque. The director of exhibitions, Betsy Adamson, explained to me that they'd done research and found that the walls, which give the sense of an adobe hedge maze, slowed people down and helped them focus in on single exhibits for longer periods of time. I particularly enjoyed watching people engage at the airplay area, where volunteers, staff, and visitors worked together to make and explore simple paper helicopters.
