I had a vague sense of how conservation fit into their educational missions, but I didn''t realize the extent of the direct advocacy and activism happening every day. The 96Elephants website is a dramatic educational site created by the Wildlife Conservation Society, which runs the zoos and aquaria in NYC.

Here are the results for the 2008 Innovator Awards: Advocacy campaign or program. Honorable Mention: National Parks Conservation Association. They created a creative online check-in process that allowed people to check in for the event online and pledge to complet fundraising post-event. Komen for the Cure race.

An early talk-back in that conservation-minded exhibition asked, 'What can you do to help the environment?' The pledge talk-back was in the context of an exhibition explicitly about conservation controversies (and many visitors responded emotionally to the exhibit rather than making pledges).
