Facebook now allows users to raise money for charities (nonprofits) directly through its platform, and at least judging from my own news feed, the company is featuring “X is raising money for a charitable cause” notifications prominently. Many organizations regularly poll their members about issues large and small.

A poll of the general public done by Grey Matter Research and Consulting found that 61 percent of adults surveyed felt that charities should only spend between 10 and 29 cents of every dollar on overhead. Expecting donors to support raising funds for infrastructure without being educated about the significance is unrealistic.

That’s a good number, but that leaves 53% of nonprofits worldwide that haven’t yet come to the understanding that Facebook can be a colossal waste of time if you are not following these best practices and at least occasionally purchasing Facebook Ads for special fundraising and advocacy campaigns.
