Knowing that non-profit supporters around the world have been adopting the use of social networking in their daily lives we set out to figure out if the use of social networks had any impact on personal or peer-to-peer fundraising. The results we’re pretty amazing (though arguably not in any way shocking).

While at WWD I had my posts make it to the front page of Digg a few times, and the front page of Yahoo! I consider myself an early adopter/adventurous techie, but I am not a developer. once which was a trip. I quit because I prefer to concentrate my professional attention in the nonprofit world. Fantastic organization.

There is a usefulness for a formal taxonomy or making it easy to find specific items, particularly for second wave adopters who may not be good at pattern analysis skills or people who can deal with messier data. A sort of "digg" for NpTech Tag items. There is an interest in a community filtering concept.

Cancer.org is an early adopter and nonprofit pioneer using this largely untapped fundraising technology. In a recent talk on Why Mobile Matters , Miles points out, our phones are usually within an arms reach of us and become an “intimate and personal device.” ” Globally, people have more access to phones than the Internet.

Several days later, Jonathan Colman set up a digg and announced it in the NpTech Friend Feed Room. It got 189 diggs. John left this comment/question : If many people and nonprofits adopted this method of fundraising would it flood the market and become less effective? Here's the report. Is the success due to the novelty?
