Help Design the Greater Good Track at 2012 SXSW Interactive

When it isn’t “conference season”, it’s “session submission season”! Voting is now open to select sessions for the next SXSW Interactive conference, taking place in Austin in March. You can vote on all the sessions you find interesting, but I hope you’ll pay particular interest to the 160+ submitted to the “Great Good/Nonprofit” track! I think that more visibility of nonprofits, campaigns, and social benefit work we support at events like SXSWi, the better – there are incredible stories, examples, and leaders in the nonprofit technology space that deserve as much stage time as those in the for-profit world. Please join me in selecting the panels for the 2012 conference, just follow these steps:

1. Sign Up / Sign In

“First, create a PanelPicker account. If you have set up a PanelPicker account in previous years, feel free to go ahead and sign in. After you have signed up for an account, you will receive a verification email. Click on the link inside this email and you will be ready to go. Also, please be assured that we will NOT use your account data for mailing lists and we will not give this data to any third party vendors.”

2. Browse Sessions

3. Thumbs Up + Comments

Voting is with a “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” on the proposals. You can pick a up or down vote from the browsing view or from a specific proposal’s page. Every vote helps, but so do comments! If you are interested, have a question, or want to add something, please leave a comment.

And, if you’d be so kind, you can even vote for the session proposal I submitted along with colleagues Debra Askanase, Manny Hernandez, Jess Main, and Vanessa Rhinesmith, Social Media Boundaries: Personal/Personnel Policy. Would appreciate your votes and comments!

  1. The schedule for the sxsw interactive is really confusing. How do we find out where/what the selections for the greater good track are for 2012? The category selection does not do the trick. Any help would be appreciated.

    1. Hi Bryan-

It’s true; the way they display the online schedule is really difficult to actually read/sort, etc. The best I can see to do is to make sure you are looking at the Interactive schedule for whichever specific day, then sort by category+subcategory. Here are a few that seem to pull nptech/social good type sessions:

      Core Conversation + Better Tomorrow
      Dual + Better Tomorrow
Dual + Government and Global Issues
      Panel + Better Tomorrow
Panel + Government and Global Issues
      Solo + Better Tomorrow
Solo + Government and Global Issues

I don’t see a way to actually just see the sessions that they originally referred to as the Greater Good track. Hope that helps!

      1. Great, thanks for the update. It is really helpful. There are just so many options in the category box.

        1. It’s true! And, in between all the sessions, be sure to come hang out and meet others in the nonprofit sector in the Beacon Lounge – the nonprofit specific lounge, in the AT&T center!
