Today the news is that Blackbaud is killing off Common Ground , one of the two donor management products (aka CRMs or Constituent Relationship Management systems) that they acquired from Convio. In what was said to be an unrelated development, they also announced the departure of Gene Austin, the former CEO of Convio.

Will charity:water get contact information for the donors so they have the opportunity to steward them and build ongoing relationships? If it has to be done later it could cost more than the value of the gifts. Will the donors have any loyalty to charity:water? Or is this a one-time event for them? I fear it will be the latter.

In a relationship building, they will likely understand that certain tasks will cost a certain amount. During the dialogue for proposal and contract, there is a real opportunity to observe each other, so time spent can have an effect on the relationship. Different price structures are ok for different projects.
