Here are a few approaches (other than locking down data entry): Policies. No one gets access to change data without training on your policies. It's a tough problem. You need clear data entry standards. You need to control who can make changes and what they can change. Training should be targeted to role.

Do you have policies and procedures governing the use of the database? Have users been trained on those policies and procedures? Did you implement the system properly in the first place? Do your codes make sense and give you the information you need?

I was planning to check out Pinterest to see what the buzz is about, but their privacy policy gives me the creeps. I can only sign up by linking a Pinterest account to my Facebook or Twitter account. The description on the Twitter link page says this allows them to: Read Tweets from your timeline. See who you follow, and follow new people.

Document your data entry standards, policies, and procedures before training so users are taught to do things the right way from the start. But recognize that not everyone will be available for classroom trainings, and some people will need 1 on 1 training to understand the concepts. Create cheat sheets for common tasks.
