Predictions for Nonprofit Fundraising Technology in 2012

NTEN published my somewhat snarky predictions for nonprofits' use of fundraising technologies in 2012. many nonprofits will struggle with out-of-date systems. My overall predictions are that most things will be pretty much the same as last year (and 2010 and 2009, etc.): No surprise -- many will also lack the funding to replace them.

More nonprofit software mergers and acquisitions

2013 is off to a bang with Accel-KKR's acquisition of Sage's Nonprofit Solutions Group and iModules acquisition of Harris Connect. Last year the big news in my industry was Blackbaud's acquisition of Convio and the merger/acquisition of Datatel and Sungard Higher Education (now called Ellucian).

Cities Acting Like Nonprofits

I just spoke on a fundraising panel at Compasspoint's Silicon Valley/Peninsula Nonprofit Forum. This means thinking and acting like nonprofits. Of course, this means they'll be competing with local nonprofits for donations. The city department in question has no board and no staff who know how to solicit donations.
