TechSoup partnered with agencies like USAID and tech companies like Microsoft and Yahoo to host these "tech for good" challenges annually via our NetSquared program.

It is a nonprofit tech company that develops free and open-source software for information collection, visualization, and crowdsourced interactive mapping to help mitigate disasters. I first heard about this from Marnie Webb, who co-founded NetSquared.

Ushahidi has been developing open-source crisis mapping software for over eight years now. LABB created an Oil Spill Crisis Map in response to the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010. Since then, it has since logged, mapped, and tracked more than 14,000 reports of petrochemical pollution. It puts one type of data on a map.
