Ushahidi, an open source project originally deployed in Kenya to report post-election violence has since been downloaded and deployed for many other events and disasters, including Haiti, Chile, and Japan. They don’t necessarily think they need an organization in order to make an impact. Another great example is Epic Change.

Online tools like Twitter , Ushahidi , Google Person Finder , CrisisMappers , and the work of nonprofit organizations like Crisis Commons. A great example of crowdsourcing is Voluntweeters.
