It was fun! We met many of the employees, including deaf workers, blind workers and workers with physical disabilities. The guy pictured above is a blind machinist. I also got to try out a powered wheelchair prototype. The most impressive aspect of my visit was the professionalism and pride that came through.

The Malaysians had brought a dance troupe, and it was fun. I was surprised how attentive the audience was to this commercial. Willing participants in a transaction of an evening of entertainment for a four minute video. It had more of a feeling of a traditional cultural experience than last year's India party (which was Bollywood to the max).

Of course, part of the attraction of Davos is spending time with fun people in a mountain setting. The most fun thing I did was sledding down the mountain in the dark. India and its neighbors are very well represented, partly because of the entrepreneurial culture of the region and because of the huge issues in the area. We ate fondue.

I ran into some fun Brazilian social entrepreneurs I hadn't met before (based in the Amazon) and we ended up drinking beers and swapping stories well into the night. Like several hotels in Davos, it's a former TB clinic, and was featured in Thomas Mann's "The Magic Mountain." And, that's a key part of the Davos flavor.

I enjoyed the Bookshare.org community meeting, where we had users, assistive tech vendors, staff and volunteers. We’ve just added our first books in Tamil and Hindi (two national languages of India), and so it was fun to brainstorm about the possibilities. The coolest demo was of a high quality Arabic text-to-speech synthesizer. I could see that the adaptive technology possibilities for Arabic are both real and exciting.
