5 Instagram Story Stickers Every Nonprofit Should Be Using

Sarah LaFemina • Jul 07, 2021

Back in 2016, Instagram introduced Stories to compete with the rising popularity of Snapchat Stories, and the way we interact with social media has never been the same since! 500 million people use Instagram Stories daily and 2 out of 3 users say that the feature fosters brand interaction. That means it is easier than ever to build trust with your followers.

But how can you make your Stories engaging? There are over
13 interactive stickers for businesses and nonprofits to use on their Instagram Stories! This article will list the top 5 stickers your nonprofit should use to engage with your supporters, build awareness, raise funds, and more.

#1: The Donation Sticker

This one probably doesn’t come as a surprise, but by setting up your Facebook Donation Account, your nonprofit can enable donations via Instagram. While popular Instagram fundraising tools include adding a
donate button to your profile or raising funds through Instagram Live, don’t underestimate the power of Donation stickers through Instagram Stories! Asking for funds through an Instagram Story donate sticker is a quick and easy way to encourage your supporters to give. Donation stickers are also a great option for peer-to-peer fundraisers to raise money on your behalf!

@bgca_clubs (Boys & Girls Clubs of America) and many other organizations use their Stories to drive people to donate to their Facebook Donation Account.

#2: Countdown Sticker

This sticker allows you to choose the date of an event or campaign launch and add the countdown to your story. The best part of this sticker is that your followers can click on it to subscribe to receive a notification when the countdown reaches 0!

#3: The Poll Sticker

Your organization can use the Poll sticker to collect data or entertain your followers. When you use the Poll sticker you can insert your question and two answers for followers to choose from.

@pancan (Pancreatic Cancer Action Network) uses the Countdown sticker AND the Poll sticker in the above screenshot to get followers engaged in their upcoming event.

#4: The Questions Sticker

This sticker allows an open-ended response from your followers. It automatically populates with the text “Ask me a question,” prompting followers to enter a question which can then be reposted on the story with an answer, but it can be changed to ask your followers a question instead. When you receive their answers, you can repost them to your story with commentary. This is great for answering questions about your organization, as well as getting to know your supporters!

@crohnscolitisfoundation (Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation) uses the Questions sticker in the example above to get to know the patients who follow their account. They will then share some follower answers to their story to show others that they aren’t alone in their struggles with IBD.

Also used in this screenshot, but not mentioned in this article, is the Hashtag sticker (#IBDvisible) which allows you to tag a term just like the way hashtags are used in a feed post. If you tap the Hashtag sticker, it will take you to the Tag where you will see content from other accounts with that same tag. This allows your organization to be visible under popular hashtag pages and use branded hashtags to engage with followers.

#5: Quiz Sticker

The final sticker that is extra important for nonprofit organizations to take advantage of in their Stories is the Quiz sticker. This is a great way to teach your followers about topics relating to your mission or test their knowledge. When the follower taps an answer it either turns red or green based on whether or not it was the right answer.

@wwf_australia (World Wildlife Foundation, Australia) uses the sticker to quiz their followers on an endangered animal. The slide after explains the correct answer!

Through the use of these stickers, and stories in general, your nonprofit organization can engage with followers, inform them, and motivate them to donate. Social media is an opportunity to share your mission with a wider audience and in many ways, you can do so for free. We urge our clients to try to find time in their busy schedules to stay connected online and we find that Stories are a fun and interactive way to do just that!
