If you haven't heard of Facebook, I'm sorry to break it to you, but you are living under a rock. However, if you haven't seen a use for Facebook for your organization, then you are not alone, and we are here to help. Many people view online social networking tools, such as Facebook , LinkedIn , and Myspace as time-draining distractions. But a benefit of Facebook that may not have occurred to you is that Facebook will allow you to aggregate content from around the Web, and easily pull it into one central page, which will help you spread the word about your organization.

This morning the Washington Post published an article titled " To Nonprofits Seeking Cash, Facebook App Isn't So Green: Though Popular, 'Causes' Ineffective for Fundraising ." Proclaiming that fundraising using Facebook Causes was a failure based on a calculation of dollars per donor.

I like Facebook. But I am a fan of my favorite nonprofits on Facebook. have donated to nonprofits that I have seen on Facebook (on their website). do like Facebook and I like nonprofits on Facebook.
But I must confess that I sometimes think that Facebook is overrated as a communications and community-building tool. Mostly to stay in touch with close friends. It’s great for that.

O ne of the most effective social media tools available to small non-profits are embeddable widgets. Chris Garrett and I mentioned during the Philanthropy.com chat , it’s best to ask visitors to your Facebook page for specific and doable actions. Now, the problem with Facebook is that it’s pretty confusing to use for a lot of folks.
