Online Live Auction Discovery

Over the last week we have fielded a ton of questions from our charity heroes about how they can move their auction ONLINE and also keep some of the LIVE aspects of their event, namely the live auction and the appeal. In this post, we will cover how you can use some online software to do this.

Over the next few weeks we will be conducting a number of webinars on how to move your auction online and create a Virtual Gala. Our first one of these is Thursday March 19.

Read on for what we have learned.

Live Streaming vs. Conferencing Tools

We have been investigating a number of solutions that range from conferencing tools (Zoom, GotoMeeting, WebEx, etc.) to live streaming solutions (Facebook Live and YouTube Live). Conferencing apps have less latency (delay) but they require much more work for end-users to join. Live streaming is much easier (your guests will just go to your Facebook or YouTube page to watch) but there is a bit of a delay. However, we do not think the delay is all that bad and it is a suitable tradeoff to having your guests struggle with conferencing software.

The next thing we looked for was a way to combine multiple feeds into a single live stream. Afterall, we are all supposed to be in isolation, so it is not likely that the auction hosts (you) will be able to gather in one spot. There were a few out there we played around with, but the one we like the best is Be.Live. We found it the easiest to setup and use.

To show you how you could conduct a stream of your Live auction and Appeal, we created this demo for you that we did LIVE on Facebook. You can checkout that demo here:

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Testing image caption text
  1. Numbered list
  2. Numbered list 2
  3. Numbered list 3

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
