BOOK RESEARCH: Which nonprofits do you think excel in their use social media?

Nonprofit Tech for Good

I first started utilizing social media to help promote nonprofits on February 1, 2006 by creating myspace.com/nonprofitorganizations. At the time very few nonprofits were utilizing social media (with the exception of blogging). Facebook was still closed to the general public, Twitter didn’t exist, and YouTube had only been live one year. The Humane Society , PETA , Oxfam , Invisible Children , and the National Wildlife Federation were the early adopters of MySpace and social media in the n

NY Times says text donations system is flawed

Robert Weiner

One of the presentations at last month’s Association of Advancement Services Professionals conference dealt with mobile giving. I’m still skeptical about its suitability for most nonprofits, and the NY Times said the same yesterday. If you have an urgent call to action, a way of reaching a mass audience, and don’t mind not being able to identify, steward, or resolicit most of the donors who give via text, mobile giving can definitely be effective.

Is it better to Retweet old-school style, or use Twitter’s Retweet function?

Nonprofit Tech for Good

Whether it is better and more productive to Retweet old-school style or with just one-click using Twitter’s Retweet function is a question I have been asking myself for months now, and the truth is I just don’t know the answer yet.
