Top Listing of Harry Potter Film Series

Update on

Tonight is definitely a night for a Harry Potter movie marathon! I wonder how the Harry Potter films are ranked.

Harry Potter is one of the most popular books and film series of all time. Audiences experience the life of the wizarding world and all types of spells to keep you hooked in the series.

However, once the beloved books were turned into films, audiences dismissed some of them for lacking important plot elements and even taking out important minor characters.

This list will not count the recently made Fantastic Beast series. Four different directors have each brought their own creative eye to the floor. This article explores the eight Harry Potter films from worst to best, even explaining what made these films so accomplished for audiences to enjoy.

Which Harry Potter considered being the worst and which are marked to be the best?

List of Harry Potter movies in order

1. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

<The first harry potter movie>

When you think about it, the Chamber of Secrets does not expand much beyond the first installment, Sorcerous Stone. The film tries to fit every little detail from the book into film making it one of the longest of the Harry Potter films at 161 minutes.

Admittedly, it’s not terrible and keeps audience members on the edge of their seats at the dark tones and the final battle with the basilisk. And who could forget the loveable Dobby?

Director, Chris Columbus does an excellent job expanding the wizarding world from his first creation of Sorcerer's Stone, but he tries too hard to condense one whole book creating a long and drawn out film. This is the reason why certain subplots and scenes are cut in later films. Audiences want to get right to the point.

2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

Deathly Hallows: Part 1 begins the riveting finale of the series. But, not with a bang. This film has been nicknamed Harry Potter Goes Camping. The film spends most of its time in quiet settings with the trio trying to figure out clues.

It’s also more about all the locations then character development. However, reviews have been enthusiastic about the ending making fans anxiously await for what happens next. And it’s only part 1 of the finale. It’s building fans up to a powerful finale where our heroes will corner Voldemort once and for all.

3. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

One of the longest books in the Harry Potter series at 870 pages, became the shortest film ever. Now that Lord Voldemort has returned, the film is more about Harry trying to comprehend his own world as the people around him will not believe that ‘you-know-who’ has returned.

As the tradition goes, another new defense against the dark arts teacher is introduced. Imelda Staunton is applauded for her performance as the unlikeable toad-like Delores Umbridge, but once you see her, fans immediately want her gone.

Order of the Phoenix is the worst-reviewed in the series. The finale still sets up a perfect ending battle but says goodbye to a wonderful character.

4. Harry Potter and the Sorcerors Stone

Sorcerous Stone started it all creating the world J.K Rowling imagined for all audiences. This is the film to start off the entertaining, magical series. The film is noted as the lightest of the franchise, and even a good warm up.

The film was also working on its special effects and the actors were only getting warmed up. No film is ever perfect at the start. Even our trio cannot watch the film without feeling embarrassed by their actions. Chris Columbus did an amazing job delivering the story to a group of wizarding fans. Nobody was disappointed.

5. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Just after Voldemort seeks his power and redemption, Half-Blood Prince continues Harry’s education and his battle to one day defeat Lord Voldemort. Although slow in parts, Half-Blood Prince mixes in more comedic moments between the trio. Other than a most talked about the devastating conclusion, Half-Blood Prince is always remembered as the Harry Potter film to take a break from all the drama.

6. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Dragons, challenges, and Lord Voldemort. Goblet of Fire was an adventure to sit through as much as to read. Fans were not unhappy when a few parts were cut. Having a chance to see Voldemort made the film the most talked about in 2004. The director and creators really outdid themselves.

7. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of AzkabanPrisoner of Azkaban takes a different step in the series but delivers a creative and heart-pounding story of Harry Potter. Audience members have already been introduced to the world of magical powers, but what about time travel? That is something new and unique. Serious Black is also introduced into the series along with a few other memorable characters. From beginning to start, Prisoner of Azkaban is a delight to watch taking a unique approach to the story.

8. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

<The end: Harry Potter Last film>

Deathly Hallows Part 2 is the film to end off the Harry Potter series with the ultimate bang of fights, triumphs, tearful farewells, and a glorious victory audiences members have been waiting for years to see.

Deathly Hallows Part 2 is an action-packed film, pure and simple, set piece after set piece. It is an emotional film out of any film of the series and also very heartfelt to see our heroes end their journey the way they should. Definitely, a wild ride when experienced it the theatre.
