How Are Nonprofits Feeling About Social Media? Inspired? Bored? Overwhelmed?

Nonprofit Tech for Good

Blogger, LinkedIn and Myspace all launched in 2003. We’re almost a decade into using social media and yet one of the most striking realities when I give in-person social media trainings is the wide variety of experience of the nonprofits in the room. Some nonprofits are just getting started and still perceive social media as cutting edge online communications and fundraising – while others have been using Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flickr for years and increasingly verbalize that they

Have you said goodbye to Facebook custom tabs?

Amy Sample Ward

As Mashable shared yesterday , PageLever’s analysis of 500 Facebook Pages (each with 10,000 fans or more) shows a dramatic decrease in custom tab views on Facebook after the transition to Timeline. Jeff Widman suggests, and I agree, that a major contributing factor is that Page owners/organizations can no longer set a custom tab as the default landing content for new visitors, instead of the Wall.

Zen and the Art of Nonprofit Technology

. I watch the fawn and it's mother, grazing in the short, scrubby, yellow grass beyond the house. They don't seem to mind our watching them, although they are wary. I wonder if we thought of them as tonight's dinner, would they notice? Would they skitter and jump into the trees just from the energy of those thoughts? . I am acutely aware of my human-ness here.

Lame spam of the day: Charter flight reservation

Robert Weiner

This looks similar to the American Airlines spam, but lamer. How many people 1) have secretaries (not me) and 2) charter airplanes (again, not me). I got two versions of this. One claimed to come from LinkedIn -- which would be a major change in their business model. Neither one had any graphics or formatting. My anti-virus flagged one of the attachments as a virus but let the other one in.

Lame spam of the day: You are highly needed

Robert Weiner

Most of these 419 scam emails aren't worth glancing at, but the language in this one was too good to pass up. Including links to real news stories is a nice touch. I liked the lines: one has to be very careful because a lot of scammers are out there to scam innocent citizens and this has made it very difficult for people to believe anything that comes through the internet but this is a different case.To Prove my sincererity, you are not sending me any money.
