Scanning for Good: 5 Reasons QR Codes Are a Safe Option for Nonprofits

NetWits

At last year’s Blackbaud Conference for Nonprofits, Allison Nassour and I presented to a full room on the topic of QR codes. We were thrilled that so many people wanted to learn more about them, but also surprised at how many were already using them at their nonprofits. It seems that QR codes have gone mainstream, or at least hit that tipping point where it’s pretty safe to include them in campaigns.

Thoughts on the Blackbaud – Convio deal

Robert Weiner

Lots of people have already weighed in on Blackbaud’s purchase of Convio (two of my favorites: [link] and [link] ). Here my perspective. Disclosures: I have clients that use both companies’ products, as well as products from their competitors, open source products, and homegrown solutions. I don’t invest in these or other companies that I advise on.

First month on the new job

Judi Sohn

Back in September, as I posted that I was leaving Fight Colorectal Cancer to join Convio , I had a picture in my head of what my new job would be like. I’m happy to say that the reality is turning out to be better than I was imagining back then. I love my job. I love the people I’m working with now just as much as I did before. I don’t love sitting on a Windows PC all day, but I’m getting used to it.

Creating Learning Experiences That Connect, Inspire, and Engage

Beth's Blog: How Nonprofits Can Use Social Media

Photo by Beth Kanter, Net Funders Conference, October, 2011. A few days ago I opened the door on a new learning journey. I am very excited about upcoming peer learning projects that I’m working on in 2012, including several for Packard grantees in India, Pakistan, and Africa as well as the e-Mediat project in the Middle East. It is a great opportunity to ponder the question: How to design and deliver learning experiences for nonprofits that connect, inspire, and engage?

Since Adobe seems to update Acrobat weekly, this message seems plausible. Some quick indicators that it isn't real: I get updates through the installed Adobe Updater, not as email messages. The update site is instant-acrobat-upgrade.com, not adobe.com. The sender's address is @newsletter.northerntool.com. No company logo in the message (easy to fake, but many spammers don't bother).

Why We're Blacking Out Sites: PIPA and SOPA

Predictions for Nonprofit Fundraising Technology in 2012

Robert Weiner

NTEN published my somewhat snarky predictions for nonprofits' use of fundraising technologies in 2012. My overall predictions are that most things will be pretty much the same as last year (and 2010 and 2009, etc.): many nonprofits will struggle with out-of-date systems. No surprise -- many will also lack the funding to replace them. But others will fail to see that technology, and people who know how to support and use technology, are necessary investments.
