WFH is the new way of working. How to ensure efficient remote training for remotely working employees

The COVID-19 crisis has challenged several dogmas in the corporate world, one of them being the need for employees to be physically present in the office premises. Several companies across the world today have been compelled to get their employees to work from home, given the fact that there are extensive lockdowns that are going to be necessary. And once employees get used to working from home, and that it has been established the WFH works just as fine, the demand to extend this privilege beyond the crisis will grow. Working From Home thus will emerge as the new way of working, and therefore, one of the key challenges that managers will be faced with is how to ensure efficient remote training for employees. The following are ways in which this challenge could be dealt with:

Adopting a suitably designed Learning Management System (LMS)

Using an LMS makes it easy for trainers to achieve the following:

  • Upload interactive training material
  • -Allow intended trainees to take the modules at their convenience
  • Monitor performance of trainees
  • Facilitate doubt resolution through easy communication features
  • -Monitor training effectiveness and make appropriate modifications if necessary
  • Use a combination of audio-visual tools for greater effectiveness of training
  • Create a feedback channel for trainers to understand how effective trainees have found the module content to be

The LMS needs to be multi-device and multi-platform compatible, and must be designed in a way that does not compromise the learning experience. It is in this regard that Gyrus has excelled in. The cloud-based LMS that it offers provides features to conduct effective training, whether through Instructor-Led Training or via e-learning modules.

Creating well-designed training plans

Once the LMS is set up, it is time to create training plans. The training plans need to be designed to suit the requirements of different departments and also individual employees. As such, it is important that the training content is structured in a modular approach, and an individual employee has at least a bit of latitude in terms of choosing what learning modules to go for, depending on the way he envisions his growth within the company.

Ensure Time-bound Continuous Learning

In order that your workforce benefits the most through the training modules, make sure that the training plan is set up in a time-bound manner, and employees are required to periodically undertake newer modules or revise previous ones if necessary. This would ensure that continuous learning and growth is embedded within your company culture.

Testing and Performance Monitoring

When a training plan is created for employees, the expectations need to be communicated in clear terms. Also, after the training is administered, it is important that the employees are tested for retention of the new knowledge through well-designed testing methods. In addition, the performance of employees after the training needs to be monitored to assess the qualitative and quantitative improvement in work output.

The above-mentioned points will help in structuring an effective training plan for employees, especially those who work remotely.
