Pricing and Packages

PrivateVPN is a fairly reasonable service and their service charges start off at $3.85, which is average when you compare it to the industry standard. Price is always a troubling topic because the bill is usually reoccurring and people want to find the best and cheapest VPN service – making price an important factor in the purchase decision.

PrivateVPN is different than most VPNs because it doesn’t stipulate any difference between each price plan – you still get all the features as you would if you were to buy the more expensive but shorty package. However, although there is no deviation in features there is a deviation in the amount you have to spend depending on how committed you are to their service. For the biggest discount, it would be preferable to choose the yearly plan but if you do not want to commit for this long you should opt for the shorter and more expensive plan. The service has three different plans to choose from: yearly, 3 months and monthly.

The cheapest deal is the yearly plan which costs an average $3.82 a month and you will be billed roughly $49.68 when you purchase it. The second cheapest deal is the 3-month package which costs $4.88 and then the most expensive package is the monthly one which costs $7.67 which is cheaper than a lot of other services. It should be noted that with all the plans you have a 30-day money-back guarantee so even if you don’t like the service you can get your money back.

Payment Options

Any good service would give their users a range of payment gateways so that they feel safe when they are purchasing the software. It is important to have a range of payment gateways because the individuals who will be using VPN software are the ones who most likely feel more exposed when using buying online. PrivateVPN offers a decent range of gateways for their users to purchase on.

They offer the standard credit/debit card payments, including Visa, American Express and Master Card, and they also offer payment from the third-party system – PayPal. They also offer payment through Bitcoin which is one of the safest ways to pay on the internet. This is because there is no personal information is attached to Bitcoin and it allows the users to pay anonymously. Overall, PrivateVPN has a lot of options.

PrivateVPN Setup and User-Friendliness

PrivateVPN was very quick and easy to set up and only took approximately 5 minutes in total. The website was very easy to navigate to find the download section because once you have logged in you get a second menu bar with all the necessary tabs which let you navigate your members account a lot easier. Once I got to the download screen I was given many operating systems to choose from and I chose Windows because that’s the system I use.Setup-PrivateVPN-on-windows

Upon clicking Windows I was greeted with a very helpful setup guide with screenshots and instructions about the process of installation. Simply follow their instructions and you’ll be good to go with this software. Also, the app asked me to restart my computer but the instructions contradicted this which was interesting.

Once the installation was completed I was greeted with a small window client which asked me to input my login details again which is pretty standard for a VPN service. After this, the client will be ready to go and will allow you to choose a location and connect to a location almost instantly. If you want to configure your settings you can click the “advanced” option in the bottom right and choose your connection security which lets you choose from OpenVPN, L2TP, PPTP and more and also lets you pick your start-up and auto-connect settings.

The client now also has a built-in DNS and IPv6 leak prevention built-in which is an improvement on the last client they had and they also have a kill switch which disconnects the connection if the VPN fails. This client is good but not as good as some of the other clients I’ve seen. Nonetheless, it is still useful and has all the basic requirements.

Servers and Speeds

As it has already been mentioned, PrivateVPN has 150+ servers in 60 different countries, which allows its users to connect to some remote places and unblock more content, Here are the server locations of PrivateVPN. Although this is a large reach it is nothing compared to some of the other VPN services that are available for the same price so if you are looking for a VPN to unblock lots of global content this VPN might not be for you. About their server speeds, they were very consistent across the grid and rarely dropped off which was great.

As a company they also allow VPN for torrenting and P2P with Kill Switch on their network which is great for people who are looking to download copyrighted material and movies without the worry of being caught by a troll. Their US servers also allow for Netflix and BBC iPlayer streaming with my tested with really fast speed, That's why I added the private VPN to the list of 5 best Netflix VPN.

Compatibility

The compatibility options available to individuals is quite impressive for PrivateVPN because they allow you to connect to 6 different devices in one instance. This is great if you have a lot of devices to protect and are looking for a VPN to protect all of them without the need for extra accounts.

privateVPN-Compatibility

Having a VPN that protects multiple devices is a must in this technical age and you need to make sure that your mobile devices are also protected along with your home computer because the real threat lies in public Wi-Fi. PrivateVPN allows you to connect to both Windows, Mac, IOS, and Android as well as Linux and various routers. The fact that you can install this on your router is amazing because you can technically protect all your gadgets at home and still have 5 connections available to use on other devices.

Customer Support

live-chatAs with most VPN services PrivateVPN offers 24/7 customer support through both email and live chat on their website. The addition of live chat is great because it means you will get a reply a lot quicker than using tickets or email. However, PrivateVPN’s live chat option is not 24/7 and does not operate at the weekend. They do, however, have a lot of individuals working 24/7 who will be able to answer the questions you have via email.

They were friendly and helpful, answering all the questions I had about their software. Their knowledge base was not the best and I suppose they reply to their chat and emails more than their website when helping people with their software. They do have some very helpful guides though when it comes to set up and installation.

Privacy and Security

Privacy and security and probably the main features of any VPN software and are the main reason people purchase them. PrivateVPN has some good security and privacy in place and they have a lot of different options when it comes to protecting you when you use the web. They use AES-256 military encryption as a baseline and then use RSA-2048 and SHA-1 for handshaking and authentication.

vpn-protocol-and-proxy

This a great security defense against malicious individuals and ISPs and will protect you when you use the internet. They also allow you to choose many different security protocols, including OpenVPN, L2TP, and PPTP. As always, we recommend that you use OpenVPN because this is the most secure and will only slow your connection slightly. Avoid PPTP because this is weak and prone to break-in. As a company, they d not keep any logs whatsoever which is great for the more anxious internet users.

Free-Trial and Refund Policy

PrivateVPN does not offer a free trial of the software with is unfortunately because this would allow users to try out their VPN risk-free. They do, however, allow for a 30-day money-back guarantee which means that you can claim your money back if you do not like their systems.

Conclusion

PrivateVPN is an amazing VPN that has a lot of features and provides its users with a safe and secure experience when using the web. They are relatively cheap and have a lot of different options when it comes to payment. They also have some great security and privacy features and their client is basic enough for any user.

The only real issue is that the client may be a bit too basic and their customer service is not entirely 24/7. Apart from that, this is a fantastic VPN that I may buy myself someday.
