Both applications are generously donated by their developers to non-profit organizations, so there’s no comparison on price. No separate download/installation needed. While Salesforce reports have improved a great deal in the last year or so, many organizations have difficulty with the concept of report types.

From the moment the end of Common Ground was announced, I’ve watched helplessly as two things happened: Organizations on Common Ground got angry (and a little panicked) and vendors and consultants who sell services and applications competitive to Common Ground seized opportunity. Is it meant to replace a consultant? Absolutely not.

While Common Ground’s batch tool was far from perfect, a lot of organizations used it and relied on it. It runs separately inside of Salesforce but is not a separate download. The fields on the Add Contact record screen are also entirely customizable with an organization’s own preferred fields.

So it’s surprising to me that thus far, Apple has done little to help families organize their iLives. She tried to download an app on the iPhone and received a prompt to confirm security questions since it was the first time the store account was being used on that device. I see many families like ours.

There’s a great 3rd party app, Apsona , that has exception reporting built in but the reports generated by the app can only be downloaded or viewed in the app. Sounds simple on the surface, apparently not so easy to do. They can’t be added to a dashboard, for example.

This year, there were enough nonprofit organizations already on Common Ground to warrant a session or two aimed at users, rather than just to sell existing Convio clients to the application as was found at previous Summits. You get an email once a week with a link to download a.zip file. That file is only available for 48 hours.
