More restrictive disability definitions, using a medical model, excluding learning and cognitive disabilities in general. •

Although I'm firmly on the nonprofit side with Benetech (because we focus on big issues where the market is failing), it's definitely easier to get funded sustainably if you have an exciting and invest-able business plan. The rise of for-profit social enterprises has been quite exciting.

This seemed exceptionally clever: even if we lost money, we’d be successful by definition as a deliberately nonprofit tech company! That was how the organization we now know of as Benetech was created and how I became a social entrepreneur (this was more than a decade before we had heard the term).

Here are the three changes of note: Clarifying the definition of a disability that qualifies. As the operators of the largest library using this exception in the United States, we see these changes as minor and helpful clarifications. We do not see these changes as having a major impact on who we serve in the U.S., or the work we do.
