We started using Salesforce as our main database in 2006, following the nonprofit best practices of the time. Over the last few months I’ve talked to many folks I trust and respect in the Salesforce nonprofit community. That carried over when Convio bought GetActive a couple of years later. I feel good about our decision.

In 2005, I naively accepted an offer to run operations for a new nonprofit. I was always comfortable in technology, I was comfortable working with nonprofits. I love that I'm at the point in my career where I can pay it forward and help other nonprofit techies. What else did I need to know? I didn't have a clue. It adds up.

Our database is set up based on the old nonprofit best practice of putting individual constituents/donors in a bucket “Individual&# account. At this point, there are two very different paths we can take: the new Nonprofit Starter pack from Salesforce, or Convio Common Ground. Salesforce Nonprofit Starter Pack.

This year, I think the watch word for smaller nonprofits will be: segmentation. The larger nonprofits seem to have it down pat. It has always bothered me that nonprofits are measured in dollars and cents, and that we’re all lumped into the same pot. We paint “nonprofits” in broad strokes. Convio Summit.

Disclaimer: I am a Salesforce MVP and a soon-to-be employee of Convio, a Salesforce partner. Convio Common Ground already has a rather nice campaign segmentation tool which does this kind of “Show me everyone who is in Campaign A but not in Campaign B” type work quite nicely. This is a huge thing for nonprofits.

Nonprofit Salesforce Practitioners (NPSF) is a 6 year-old Google Group now with over 1700 members, averaging around 300 messages a month. Only requirement for membership is that you have a connection in some way to nonprofits using Salesforce. Even though I work for Convio, Common Ground gets no special treatment.

We use Convio for our email marketing, and unfortunately their email WYSIWYG editor…well…sucks. Tags: Internet & Technology Nonprofit. For starters, it only works in Internet Explorer. Otherwise, it’s a royal pain to load 5 different windows and 3 different applications to test emails.

But there are times that I need to quickly grab the full 18 digit version (for example, when updating a synced record in Convio Online Marketing). I administer 2 Salesforce nonprofits. This extension makes it easy: Force.com LOGINS - This one, also by an Appirio employee, is a lifesaver.

It’s been a little over a month since I signed on the dotted line for Common Ground , Convio’s Force.com application for nonprofit donation and constituent management. Between them and Convio, I feel like we’re in good hands. Last week, Convio updated their managed packages to version 2.0.

If I knew that I could make the switch from the old Salesforce nonprofit Starter Pack to Convio Common Ground in less than 6 weeks, I would have made this move months ago. Donor Status: Lifetime Hard Credit Count (a Convio Common Ground field) = null covers that since the communication wasn't aimed at donors. Tagged: Nonprofit , Salesforce. Spaced a week apart. This year, the Nonprofit/Foundation sessions and exhibitors were all on the lower level of the nearby Marriott Marquis.
